Honda Scooters Power Two-Wheeler Sales In Central India
Growing sales of scooters in Central India has led to Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) crossing 60 lakh customers in the region, across the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. According to HMSI, the milestone of 60 lakh customers was achieved in the 18th year of the company's operations. While it took Honda more than 11 years (2001 to 2012) to earn the trust of the first 10 lakh customers, the next 50 lakh Honda customers were added in just six and a half years (2012 - January 2019). And that's not all - Honda added the most recent 10 lakh customers in just over a year!
"We are delighted to win the trust of over 60 lakh customers in the heart of India. Backing our increasing customer base, we have been aggressively expanding our network. Today we are servicing our customers through over 1250 touchpoints in the central region," said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
Honda's increasing customer base in Central India is attributed to the growing acceptance of scooters in the region. According to HMSI, every second scooter customer in the region is a Honda owner. And the growing sales of scooters in the past decade has also led to a huge spurt in automatic scooters contribution to overall two-wheeler sales.
Over the past decade, automatic scooter sales have nearly doubled from 10 per cent to 19 per cent. This trend is attributed to more women joining the workforce, faster expanding road network in rural areas, and increasing demand for unisex two-wheelers which fulfil the needs of every family member. HMSI currently is the largest seller of scooters in India, and the Honda Activa is one of the highest selling two-wheelers in India, at times even surpassing Hero MotoCorp's bestselling Splendor motorcycle.
