Two-Wheeler Sales June 2019: Royal Enfield Posts 22 Per Cent Drop In Volumes
It is yet another month of disappointing sales for Royal Enfield with the manufacturer reporting a 22 per cent decline in volumes for June 2019. The Chennai-based bike maker sold a total of 58,339 units last month, as opposed to 74,477 units that were sold during the same month last year. With the overall negative buying sentiment across the auto industry, Royal Enfield has been posting negative growth since the start of 2019 with volumes far from favourable. The sales have also affected parent company Eicher Motors' stocks as a result.
With respect to domestic sales, Royal Enfield sold 550,082 units in June 2019, as a drop of 54 per cent as against 72,588 units sold during the same period last year. Exports though saw a favourable rise during the previous month with 3257 units shipped, a healthy growth of 72 per cent when compared to 1889 units shipped in June 2018.
While Royal Enfield's flagship 650 Twins are off to a good start, the manufacturer is struggling with volumes in the entry-level segment. The Royal Enfield Classic 350, the company's bread and butter model isn't bringing in the desired volumes, with the recently increased prices, hike in insurance prices among other factors also affecting volumes. The company is working on increasing its presence pan India to cover ground, and is also working on upgrading its product line-up to meet the upcoming BS6 emission regulations.
