Online Coronavirus Bike Build-Off Organised By Roland Sands Design

American custom bike building and design firm Roland Sands Design, has organised an online bike build-off, a global contest open to all two-wheeled projects from around the world. Started as a means to combat the coronavirus lockdown and quarantine around the world, Roland Sands Design has teamed up with several sponsors, to kick-start a quarantine build-off competition. According to Roland Sands, founder of Roland Sands Design, it is a worldwide competition and anybody in the world can participate, as long as the build is on two-wheels; there are no rules, as such.

"What are you gonna do, when there's nothing to do? Why not build a motorcycle? This is the time to get after those projects we've been meaning to get around to since the entire motorcycle community is on collective pause," said Roland Sands of Roland Sands Design.

The competition will be open till mid-May, and the date may be revised according to how the global pandemic situation unfolds over the next few months. Judging will take place online with special judges, and participants are invited to share their builds as they progress, talk about it online, and post pictures with hashtags. The builds will have to be completely new and any existing builds will be disqualified. Roland Sands encourages participants to post progress of the builds on social media.

Roland Sands is a former motorcycle racer, who also broke a few track records in the US, and after retiring from racing at the age of 29, Sands established Roland Sands Design, creating custom parts, accessories and apparel. He is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the American motorcycle industry.

Zongshen Cyclone RX6 Based On Norton 650 Nearing Completion

While there still doesn't seem to be a buyer for iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles which went into administration in January this year, the firm's 650 cc parallel-twin seems to be finding life in China. While Norton apparently sold off the engine rights of its 961 engine to China's Jinglang just before the brand went into administration, the deal for the 650 cc engine was finalized way back in 2017 with Chinese giant Zongshen. The 650 cc parallel-twin engine was due to be used in Norton's Atlas and Superlight models, but now it looks like that engine platform will make its debut in a Zongshen motorcycle, called the Cyclone R6. Brixton 1200 To Rival Triumph Bonneville T120

A 1200 cc modern classic with similar design lines as Triumph's iconic Bonneville series, has reportedly been cleared for production. The bike was showcased as a concept at last year's EICMA motorcycle show, and from the looks of it, this is a model developed in China with the Triumph Bonneville T120 in its sights. The Brixton brand though is part of Austria's KSR Group, which imports bikes from several Chinese manufacturers, including CF Moto. And while the new Bonneville rival will be manufactured in China, the design and engineering has been created at KSR's design centre in Krups, Austria.
