2020 Royal Enfield Continental GT Spotted On Test

Royal Enfield is working on updating its entire range of motorcycles to meet the upcoming Bharat Stage VI (BS6) emission regulations, and a new updated Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 was spotted on test in Chennai. The Royal Enfield 650 Twins were launched in November 2018 in India, and now it seems Royal Enfield will be launching the BS-VI compliant models of these two 650 cc motorcycles well before the deadline of April 1, 2020, when the new emission regulations come into force.

The exhaust design is slightly different, but it remains to be seen if the protrusions will be retained in the production model

The latest prototype of the RE Continental GT 650 looks near identical to the current model, and there seem to be no design changes or any new styling additions to the bike. The only difference in the test mule seems to be the exhaust design. The twin exhausts of the Continental GT 650 on the prototype test mule are fitted with small extensions, but we can't be sure at this stage if this change will be carried forward into the final production spec BS-VI model Continental GT 650.

The Continental GT 650 is powered by a 649 cc, parallel-twin, air and oil-cooled engine which puts out 47 bhp at 7,250 rpm and develops 52 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. Both the 650 Twins are powered by the same engine and get a slick-shifting 6-speed gearbox and are capable of speeds of over 160 kmph. There aren't expected to be any major changes in the drivetrain of the BS-VI compliant 650 Twins, except for possibly minor changes in the ECU and throttle bodies. The spy shots of the latest test mule also confirm that Royal Enfield will not be indulging in any design changes to the model at this stage.

However, Royal Enfield has been working on updated models in its 350 cc and 500 cc portfolio, with updated engines, chassis and some design changes in the Classic and Thunderbird models, which we have seen recently in several spy shots.

Zongshen Cyclone RX6 Based On Norton 650 Nearing Completion

While there still doesn't seem to be a buyer for iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles which went into administration in January this year, the firm's 650 cc parallel-twin seems to be finding life in China. While Norton apparently sold off the engine rights of its 961 engine to China's Jinglang just before the brand went into administration, the deal for the 650 cc engine was finalized way back in 2017 with Chinese giant Zongshen. The 650 cc parallel-twin engine was due to be used in Norton's Atlas and Superlight models, but now it looks like that engine platform will make its debut in a Zongshen motorcycle, called the Cyclone R6. Brixton 1200 To Rival Triumph Bonneville T120

A 1200 cc modern classic with similar design lines as Triumph's iconic Bonneville series, has reportedly been cleared for production. The bike was showcased as a concept at last year's EICMA motorcycle show, and from the looks of it, this is a model developed in China with the Triumph Bonneville T120 in its sights. The Brixton brand though is part of Austria's KSR Group, which imports bikes from several Chinese manufacturers, including CF Moto. And while the new Bonneville rival will be manufactured in China, the design and engineering has been created at KSR's design centre in Krups, Austria.
